Report On Shannon Flood Embankments Nearing Completion

A report on the condition of flood embankments protecting Shannon town and airport in adverse weather is nearing completion.

Clare County Council, together with the OPW and the Airport Authority, have been examining the structural integrity of the embankments.

The defence barriers date back several decades and run right along the periphery of Shannon town and airport, stopping flood waters hitting both.

A CFRAMS study previously warned that Shannon Airport could be “swept away” in the case of a major flooding event.
