Recession Still Being Felt In Clare Despite Positive Economic Outlook

It’s claimed the recession is still being felt in Clare despite the latest economic outlook which claims the recession is virtually over.

In its quarterly review, Goodbodys has predicted that the country will be at full employment by the end of next year.

But the latest live register figures show the number of people signing-on in Clare has risen for the second month in a row as Clare FM’s James Mulhall reports:

Goodbody’s latest report has predicted an extremely strong performing Ireland over the coming months.

Despite years of being battered by the recession, its expected that employment levels will grow to such a height that Ireland will have to rely on immigrant labour to meet the demand.

Goodbody expects domestic spending returns to its previous 2007 peak, ending the so-called “lost decade” that followed the property crash.

But despite this, the latest CSO figures show a second straight month of growing dole queues in Clare, with an additional 52 people signing on across the county in July.

Doonbeg businesswoman and former CEO of Ennis Chamber of Commerce Rita McInerney isn’t convinced it’s equal development.

While the 6,127 people were on the county’s live register at the end of July, it’s still 850 fewer people than at the same time last year, and the jump comes in a month that usually sees a seasonal increase in the unemployment indicator.

34 of the 52 extra people have signed on in the Ennis area, with 15 joining the live register in East Clare and eight more in the North of the county.
