A Quin cancer patient has been told by her insurer that it will now cover the cost of a 150,000 euro immunotherapy treatment.

Maria Meade was diagnosed as having aggressive melanomas last April and after receiving surgery was advised to begin treatment with Pembrolizumab, however it was not covered by her health insurance.

Maria’s husband Tom had pleaded with the health minister to provide access to the drug as a priority, but has now been told by Laya that the insurer will cover the cost.
