Concern That Clare Is Too Reliant On Larger Corporations For Jobs

Concern is being expressed that Clare may be at risk at relying too heavily on large overseas companies for the county’s employment market.

It comes as new figures from Revenue reveal that of the €594 million taken in in tax here last year, some €125m of that was in the form of corporation tax.

This means Clare ranks fifth nationwide in terms of the counties paying the most in corporation tax alone.

Meanwhile, around half of the overall tax take here comes from PAYE, USC and Income Tax, at €298 million, while a further €124m was taken in in VAT.
