Last month Supermacs owner Pat McDonagh lodged fresh plans for a ten million euro motorway development on the M18 at Skehanagh, on the outskirts of Ennis, and today is the deadline for those who want to lodge a submission on it.

The Director of the Ailwee Caves and Brid of Prey Centre believes that businesses and tourism operators across the county should be coming together to promote Clare as a destination, rather than a pitstop.

Nuala Mulqueen says anything that gets people to stop here can only be a good thing.

A group of Ennis chamber retailers has already indicated their opposition against the proposal, citing fears over the impact on jobs, local businesses, and the the county’s tourism product.

Ennis Newsagent Mary Kelly has echoed this, saying we should be building on existing initiatives in the town, rather than sucking the life out of what has become a unique shopping experience.

With just hours to go until the dealine for submissions, these people on the streets of Ennis told us whether they think the development is a good idea.
