Private Health Premium Could Double Within Decade

An Ennis insurer insists a reduction in government levies will halt an impending hike in health insurance.

It follows claims by the industry that the cost of an average private health premium could double to around €2400 within a decade.

Under the current system, an average premium for an adult is €1200 – of that, €444 goes to the government, with the remainder to the insurer.
