Government Accused Of Abandoning Elderly Ahead Of Budget Announcement

The expected decision to not include an increase in the basic pension rate in today’s budget is being described as “shocking” by the Shannon-based President of Active Retirement Ireland.

The state pension has been increased by €5 in each of the past three years, but it’s expected that the Finance Minister will reveal that’s off the table during his budget speech later.

Carbon tax will likely increase by 6 euro a tonne, putting 2c on a litre of petrol or diesel, or about 15 euro on a tank of home heating oil.

Kay Murphy has accused the Government of abandoning the elderly.
