The expected decision to not include an increase in the basic pension rate in today’s budget is being described as “shocking” by the Shannon-based President of Active Retirement Ireland.
The state pension has been increased by €5 in each of the past three years, but it’s expected that the Finance Minister will reveal that’s off the table during his budget speech later.
Carbon tax will likely increase by 6 euro a tonne, putting 2c on a litre of petrol or diesel, or about 15 euro on a tank of home heating oil.
