Clare’s Green Party Councillor says further clarity is needed before her party can even consider going into coalition with Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil.

Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil have sent out a 10-point document to three smaller parties, in an effort to get them on board with a coalition.

It’s ruled out tax hikes and social welfare cuts, but this had lead to concern in some quarters over where the money would come from for the initiatives.

Labour discussed the document briefly on a Zoom conference call this morning, but they’re not expected to make any decisions today

While the Social Democrats have written to the leaders of Fine Gael and Fianna Fail as well as the Finance Minister.

They’re looking for economic projections for the impact of COVID-19 and Brexit to see how realistic the goals and promises in the framework document are.

The Green Party, meanwhile, is looking for further clarity on a number of points.

Their Inagh-based Councillor Roisín Garvey thinks the document is “weak and vague” and says they need more information before they could even consider a coalition.

Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern says it won’t be an easy task to attract other parties to sign up to the framework coalition document.

But believes that when they do, Micheál Martin will want to be Taoiseach first in any arrangement.
