Agreed Date on Election Needed Says Clare Government TD

A Clare Fine Gael TD believes an agreement needs to be reached on when the General Election will be held, saying the Government can’t continue to operate on a week to week basis.

Speculation on the timing of an election has intensified, since the conclusive result in the UK election last week, but Senior Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil figures have played down the prospect of a February election.

Fianna Fáil leader Michael Martin has written to the Taoiseach asking him to agree an election date around Easter time.

Clarecastle Deputy Joe Carey has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that there’s a need for stability within Government, but he believes a summer election is in the best interest of the country.
