Planning Lodged for North Clare Coastguard Station

 
It’s hoped the long awaited new station for the Doolin coastguard is on its way at last, as a planning application is lodged with Clare County Council this week.

 The OPW is seeking permission for a state of the art facility near the pier in Doolin, which would be one of the largest of its kind in Ireland, and include much needed boat storage and control facilities for what’s become one of the countries busiest coastguard units.

 23 members of the Doolin Coastguard, along with local representatives have been campaigning for new facilities for over 10 years now, and currently don’t even have toilets or shower facilities.

 Deputy Area Officer in Doolin, Thomas Doherty, says they’re eagerly awaiting the extra space, which is needed for varied reasons and often in tragic circumstances
