The Dáil has heard claims that patients in the Emergency Department of University Hospital Limerick weren’t fed for a four day period in recent weeks because of a shortage of staff.

The claim has been made by Sinn Féin TD Maurice Quinlivan, who sought answers from the Minister from Health.

In response, the House heard that there is currently a full staffing contingent, except for one attendent who is on leave, and while unexpected sick leave could put pressures on the service, a full catering service is available to patients.

Deputy Quinlivan outlined what he had been told when contacted by a staff member within the hospital.
