Residents are being warned that Clare County Council doesn’t carry out works such as tree felling in privately owned properties.
It follows an incident at a house in the Parteen area last Saturday, during which a significant sum of money was stolen from an elderly man, by a group claiming to be council staff cutting down trees.
They showed him what appeared to be legitimate documentation and asked him to make a contribution, but they made an escape with that money, and more after seeing where the man kept his funds.
