The alarm was raised just after 10 o clock last night, when a 23-year-old woman and 17-year-old girl failed to return to shore.

They had been out paddleboarding off the coast of Furbo, and were due back at half-past 8.

The Irish coastguard launched an immediate search operation in the Galway Bay area.

Divisional Controller at Valentia John Draper outlines the agencies involved.

Just before lunchtime today, the woman and girl were found alive, after fifteen hours in the water.

The RNLI says they were found clinging to a lobster pot by a local fisherman.
