Overcrowding Issues Persist At Region’s Main Hospital

The region’s main hospital remains the most overcrowded in the country today, despite a slight dip in trolley numbers.

The latest figures from the INMO show 64 patients were waiting for a bed at University Hospital Limerick, 39 of those in the emergency department.

It’s 28 more than the next busiest facility.

It comes on a day when it’s emerged that the Dooradoyle facility is one of a number of hospitals around the country which have had to stop serving hot meals to patients in the ED.

The ban on hot food has been introduced in the interest of patient safety.
