A motion to object to planning permission of a new incinerator located close to the Clare-Limerick border has fail to gather enough support.

The Irish Cement plant at Castlemungret, a mere 300 meters from Clare, is applying to change from burning petrolium coke other fuels including incinerating tyres at 1,500 degrees, a move opposed by local residents who are concerned over emissions from the plant.

Councillor Cathal Crowe wished to oppose the planning permission but his colleagues have decided to oppose a later application regarding the company’s environmental license.
