The latest statistics from the CSO show there were 5,809 people on the Live Register in Clare at the end of last month, a jump of 89 on the June figure in the county.

The biggest jump came in the Ennis area, where an additional 122 people signed on in July, while the numbers in North Clare rose by 52 and in the East of the county there was a rise of 35.

In contrast, 16 people in West Clare left the dole queues last month.

But these figures don’t take into account the additional 6,047 people who were claiming the Pandemic Unemployment Payment at the end of July, which represents a 38% drop in those claiming the support over a five-week period.

According to the figures published today, an additional 7,854 people in the county were in receipt of the Wage Subsidy Scheme on July 26th.

That number climbed by 1,089 since the beginning of the month.
