As can be expected, the Ennis district accounts for the vast majority of Gardaí in Clare.

In all, there are 237 officers in the district – which covers the East of the county.

The bulk of those are in or around the county town, with 130 in Ennis itself.

There are an additional 57 in Shannon, 10 immigration officers at Shannon Airport and 26 in Killaloe.

Crusheen, Newmarket-on-Fergus, Scariff, Sixmilebridge and Tulla all have five or less.

Across the entire Kilrush District, covering West and North Clare, there are 79 Gardaí.

The biggest number, not surprisingly, is in Kilrush town where there are 41 officers stationed.

Ennistymon follows that on 29, while the remainder – including the likes of Kilkee, Lisdoonvarna and Kildysart – all have either one or two apiece.

The total of 316 brings it back in line with the figure in 2011 and it’s an improvement from the 2014 record low of 287.

In addition, there are six Garda reserves in Clare – five in Ennis and one in Shannon.
