The Department of Housing’s February homelessness report shows that at the end of last month, there were 65 adults in Clare without a permanent home.

That’s up five in the space of a month and almost double the figure of 34 in February of last year.

When it comes to children, across the entire Mid-West region at the end of February there were 160 without a roof over their heads, a rise of seven in just a month.

Though there is no breakdown of which county these children are in, the local authority revealed in December that there were 52 children without a home in Clare.

In total, there are now more than 6,000 homeless people across the country, which is over 1,200 more than this time last year.

That means that on average, 100 people have been entering homelessness in Ireland every month over the past year.
