West Clare Search For Missing Fisherman Suspended Until Tomorrow

A land, air and sea search has been stood down for the evening in West Clare after a fisherman was reported to have been swept off rocks early this morning.

It’s understood the man in his forties was fishing in the Pulleen Bay near Doonbeg.

The alarm was raised at around 9.00am however it’s believed the man have been fallen into the sea some time earlier.

Gardaí and the Irish Coast Guard were alerted a major search for the man was launched.

The Shannon based search and rescue helicopter was sent to the scene while the Kilkee and Doolin units of the Coast Guard were also tasked, and were later joined by divers from the Kilkee Sub Aqua Club.

The missing man is understood to be Russian national in his fourties who had been living in the Limerick area.

The search has been called off for the evening, and is expected to resume tomorrow.
