North Clare Farmer Confident He Will Be Granted Compensation From The State

A North Clare farmer has expressed confidence he will get compensation he is claiming against the state over a refusal to grant cattle identity tags for his herds.

Tom Clair from Lahinch took the case to the European Parliament over a 2001 decision which left them unable to sell some animals and as it was a reference year, they received lower payments in subsequent years.

The Petitions Committee is now to raise the matter with the Irish Department of Agriculture, as well as referring the case to the Parliament’s own Agriculture Committee.
