A Community Alert meeting in North Clare this evening hopes to raise awareness for the issue of Rural Isolation in the run up to the Christmas period.
Clare Gardaí are running a number of similar meetings to encourage those who live alone to interact with their community, and to remind people to check on their neighbours.
Census 2016 figures showed an decrease in the numbers living in rural Ireland, leading in turn to an increase in those who report feeling isolated.
