New Wastewater Plant To Address Odoour Issues In Ballycannon Estate

Irish Water is to construct a new wastewater treatment plant in Meelick, to address long-running issues in the area.

Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Cathal Crowe has received assurances from the utility that a new plant for Ballycannon Heights will be up and running by late 2021.

Homeowners in the area have been faced with intermittent foul odours from an existing sewage facility for many years now and have long been calling for a solution to be put in place.

Irish Water has previously blamed the odour issues on dry weather and hot temperatures, while at the peak times, Clare County Council has added chemical treatments to address the smells.
