New Penalty Point System For Those Speeding

The higher you speed the more penalty points you’ll get under new plans from the Transport Minister.

Shane Ross believes that people who are caught excessively speeding should be punished differently to those just over the legal limit.

158 people died on the roads in 2017, a record low, but despite this, there was no drop in road deaths in Clare where four people lost their lives on the roads over the course of the year.

Meanwhile, there has been a rise in the number of people caught drink driving in Clare over the Christmas period.

13 people were arrested after being caught driving under the influence of alcohol between the 18th od december and New Year’s day.

That’s up from 11 in the same period in 2016.
