New Insurance Policies ‘May Exclude COVID-19 Cover’

A leading figure within the insurance industry has said it’s likely that many new policies for business customers will include an exclusion clause for losses as a result of COVID-19.

Four pubs have begun court proceedings against FBD Insurance arguing that their policies should see them compensated for losses incurred during lockdown.

The cases are seen as important test cases for hundreds of pubs around Ireland, and are due to be heard before the Commercial Court in October.

Into the future, CEO of MunsterGroup insurance Padraic McNicholas has said it’s likely that COVID-related losses will be excluded from policies, saying that the sector is now operating in a whole new world.
