Just 27 new homes were built in West Clare in the last three months of 2018.

Figures released by the CSO show this is the lowest rate of dwelling completion in the county – and one of the lowest in the country.

In total, 244 new dwellings were completed in Clare from October to the end of 2018.

Figures compiled by the Central Statistics Office show that of that number, single dwellings make up the bulk at 45, while 11 new schemes were finished.

No apartments were built here in that time, meaning all dwellings built to turnkey standard were houses.

But a geographic divide is also evident.

In the V15 Eircode region – that’s Kilrush and surrounding parts of West Clare – just 27 new homes were built.

The V95 Eircode, which takes in Ennis, parts of West Clare and all of North Clare, saw 166 new homes built; meaning 51 were built in the East of the county in Quarter 4.
