New Council Scheme Aims To Bring Vacant Business Units Back Into Use

Clare County Council is to introduce a new scheme which will see increased bills for the owners of the county’s largest vacant commercial properties even if they remain out of use.

The scheme will see the end of a total rates relief for some commercial properties, and in effect gives their owners three years to bring them back into use in some form.

95% of vacant commercial properties, namely those with a commercial rates value of less than €20,000, will continue to receive a 100% rate credit for three years and an incentive scheme to encourage their re-occupation remains in place.
