Midwest Simon is warning that homelessness could spiral out of control once again, if the Government fails to implement a prevention strategy.
The Simon communities have lauched a petition today calling for measures to be put in place to prevent people from becoming homeless, as well as protections for renters and for a significant increase in the construction of one and two-bed housing units.
It comes as the latest figures from the Department of Housing show the level of homelessness in Clare and Limerick has dropped by 10% over the past year.
CEO of Midwest Simon Jackie Bonfield has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that while the drop in figures is welcome, it’s important to act now, to prevent another wave of homelessness.
