Met Éireann had already advised of strong winds tonight, with gusts of up to 110 kilometres expected.

Coasts and exposed areas are expected to bear the brunt of the strong winds, which will be at their strongest in Clare at around midnight.

Meanwhile, a rainfall warning has also been issued for Clare, with around one inch of rain forecast for between 10:00 tonight, and tomorrow morning.

Both warnings are the lowest-level Status Yellow alerts.

Met Éireann forecaster Liz Walsh is warning that the winds have the potential to gain in force, and she says the rain that’s coming with it could lead to flooding on already saturated land.

There was flash flooding in parts of the county over the weekend following heavy rain, with Clare’s Fire service called in to protect homes in parts of Feakle and Scariff.

Maghera Councillor Pat Hayes fears the frequency of weather warnings in recent years is leading to some people becoming complacent when adverse weather conditions are developing.

The Fianna Fáil Councillor believes ongoing flooding issues point to the need for a more proactive approach towards flooding, rather than a reactive one.
