The Mayor of Ennis is urging people not to damage or vandalise vital life-saving equipment along the county’s waterways.

A schoolgirl has been hospitalised after entering the river Fergus in Ennis yesterday afternoon, when the river was high and fast-flowing.

Two men who were walking by the Maid of Erin raised the alarm before locating a life-ring which they used to pull the teenager to safety.

She was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick, where she’s been treated for mild hypothermia.
