Many Clare FF Members Reluctantly Backed Programme For Government – O’Callaghan

A Clare Fianna Fáil Councillor who was a vocal advocate for a No vote on the Programme for Government feels a lot of party members voted in favour of the deal because they were fearful of another election.

Kilmurry Councillor Alan O’Callaghan was one of the leading figures within the Fairer Future movement, which called on Fianna Fáil members to reject the deal which ultimately saw Micheál Martin elected as Taoiseach.

Tallies in last weeks vote suggested that nearly a third of local Fianna Fáil members rejected the deal, one of the highest No votes in the country.
