More people in Clare work in manufacturing than any other industry here.
Almost 6,900 people across the Banner county are employed in the sector – well ahead of the other sectors.
Nationally, though, it’s retail jobs that are leading the way
A total of 6,888 people in Clare – or 13.9% of the workforce – are employed in the manufacturing industry.
It tops the list of professions in the county, more than 1,300 ahead of the next most popular industry, wholesale and retail.
Human health and social work; education and agriculture, forestry and fishing rounding off the top five.
The data shows that while it remains the one of the key employers in Clare, agricultural jobs have dropped by almost 9% since 2011 – with 328 people less employed in that sector.
Meanwhile, construction jobs in Clare saw a 5% rise in the same period, with 2,525 employees.
Nationally, sales and retail assistants accounted for the biggest portion of workers – with close to 91,000 people employed in these jobs.
