The lifeboat crew from Lough Derg RNLI located the 16 foot cruiser in Church Bay, behind Hare Island, at around 9.15 this morning.

The Bay, near the Clare coast of the lake, is known for being hazardous – it’s shallow and rocky in parts.

The man, who had spent the night alone was found asleep – he has been stranded on the lake in stormy conditions, as he was reluctant to call anyone for help.

He was assessed at the scene and found to be unharmed, while the vessel was safely removed from the rocks and towed to Garrykennedy harbour.

Lough Derg RNLI is urging anyone in trouble to call for help and say they’re always on hand to provide assistance where needed.
