Emergency services were alerted just after 9 o’clock this morning after a man became trapped under a van in a ditch on the Broadford to Bridgetown Road.

Its understood that conditions were icy in the area when two cars collided, after which one of the drivers got out to warn oncoming traffic.

The man in his twenties became pinned after a van lost control on the ice.

He was taken to University Hospital Limerick, where he’s being treated with significant leg injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

The driver of the van, a man in his forties, was treated for shock at the scene.

Units from Killaloe Fire Service and Limerick City Fire and Rescue Service, Ambulance and Gardaí attended the scene.

The road was closed for a time but has since re-opened.

Gardaí are advising that icy conditions remain on the route and are urging motorists to slow down and drive with care in the area.
