A single stab wound inflicted during a fight at a housing estate in Kilkee on Aug 6th 2017 claimed the life of Karl Haugh – a father-of-one.

Robbie Walsh was arrested at his home the following morning and told Gardaí he wanted to hand himself in for stabbing him in the back.

He didn’t bring the knife to the fight but admitted using one while grappling with Mr. Haugh. He was cleared of murder last month but convicted of manslaughter – to which he offered a plea to before the trial.

An emotional victim impact statement was read out on behalf of Mr. Haugh’s mother at last month’s sentence hearing and in a letter of apology, he said he didn’t mean to kill him. He described him as a “good skin”.

He’s due to be sentenced at the Central Criminal Court later today.
