Man Held In Connection With Fatal Shannon Stabbing Released Without Charge

A 19-year-old man arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing in Shannon has been released without charge.

23-year-old Jamie Higgins of Ardilaun, Mungret in Limerick lost his life following an altercation in the kitchen areas of the Shannon Knights Nite Club around 2am on Sunday morning.

Another man, a 22-year-old, also received stab wounds during the incident – he remains in hospital where he’s being treated for injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.

A 19-year-old arrested in connection with the incident has been release without charge this afternoon, and a file is being sent to the DPP.

An incident room has been set up at Shannon Garda Station and a team of detectives and uniformed personnel have been assigned to the investigation.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the Nite Club on Saturday night or Sunday morning to  contact them on 061 365 900.

Meanwhile, tributes are being paid towards 23-year-old Jamie Higgins. Local Councillor Eleanora Hogan says the entire community is in mourning.
