Man Still Held After Fatal Shannon Stabbing

Gardaí are continuing to question a 19 year old man in relation to a fatal stabbing in Shannon.

A 23 year old man died, and another was injured, after the incident which occurred in a busy nightclub in the early hours of this morning.

The Shannon Knights Night Club was sealed off earlier today, as Gardaí attempted to piece together the timeline around last night’s incident.

Locals in Shannon say the bar was very busy at 2 a.m. this morning, with revelers celebrating both St. Patrick’s Day, and Ireland’s Grand Slam clinching win over England, when an altercation broke out involving a number of men.

Afterwards, two men in their twenties were taken to UHL with stab injuries

One, aged 23, subsequently died while a 22 year old has been treated there for injuries described as non life threatening.

A 19 year old man was arrested a short time later and he is still being held at Shannon Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

A postmortem examination is due to take place at University Hospital Limerick today.
