Man Dies While Cycling In Clare

A man has died after what is being described as a medical incident while out cycling in Clare this afternoon.

The man, who is believed to be in his fifties, was cycling with a group near Gort when they noticed his absence.

The group traveled back along the route where they discovered the man in an unresponsive state on the old Gort Road, two kilometres north of Crusheen.

Ambulance and Garda units responded to the scene, and the road was closed in both directions.

Efforts to resuscitate the man were carried out and he was taken to University Hospital Limerick where he was pronounced dead.

Gardai will carry out a preliminary examination of the scene but say they believe he died as a result of a ‘medical episode’.
