Major Fire at Limerick Scrap Metal Facility

Firefighters from Shannon have taken part in the fight against a major blaze at a scrap metal recycling facility in Limerick overnight.

Limerick Fire Brigade were called to the scene at United Metals on the Ballysimon Road in the city shortly after 8 yesterday evening.

10 units of the fire service, including two from Shannon, battled the fire into the night and it was not fully extinguished until around 6:30 this morning.

At it’s height, large plumes of smoke could be seen billowing from the area, with residents advised to close all doors and windows.

No one is believed to have been hurt in the incident.
