There are now 5,273 people in Clare on the live register, marking a reduction of some 382 in the space of a month.

The numbers signing on in each of the regions in the county eased significantly in April with the county town seeing the biggest single reduction.

There are currently 2,742 people in dole queues in Ennis, a drop of over 150 in the space of four weeks.

There was also a notable drop over around 100 in areas associated with the Ennistymon social welfare office, while there are less people signing on in the Kilrush and Tulla areas too.

When compared to this time last year, there are almost 900 more people in employment in Clare.

The major drop in live register figures in April mirrors that of 2017, when close to 300 also left dole queues, which may be attributed to the beginning of the busy season in Clare.
