Macron Leads As French Election Enters Final Days

The French are going to the polls to vote on their next president in two days time.

Opinion polls have shown a widened gap between far-right candidate Marine Le Pen and centrist Emmanuel Macron who has extended his lead to 62 per cent over his rival.

It follows a bruising debate on Thursday night in which both sides traded insults and clashed over the EU, terrorism and the economy.

47 million French citizens are eligible to vote but there are fears that many are willing to ‘protest vote’ because they dislike both candidates.
