Shannon Airport has this afternoon announced that its first ever scheduled Lufthansa service is to double in capacity, with a second weekly service to Frankfurt.

It’ll operate on Thursdays and Saturdays from May 2nd to October 12th, with the outbound leg on Thursdays arriving in Frankfurt on time to meet onward connections.

The airport is one of Europe’s largest and most important airport hubs and the German market is the third largest for tourism in Ireland.

Securing this extra connectivity to mainland Europe will also be welcomed by many, amid ongoing Brexit uncertainty.

In a statement, Lufthansa Senior Director for Sales in Ireland Andreas Koester has said the airline’s commitment is testament to the demand for their services and that they look forward to further expanding their footprint in Ireland.

Management at Shannon Airport has welcomed the announcement.
