Clare is lagging behind other counties in terms of infrastructure for electric cars.
Figures released to the Dáil by Transport Minister Eamon Ryan show there are 16 Standard Charge Points, and only two fast chargers, for electric cars in Clare.
The total number of 18 is higher than only nine other counties, with areas including Roscommon, Louth, Wicklow, Wexford and Waterford all having more charging points for drivers of electric cars.
Electric cars are more popular than ever in Clare, with 45 new electric vehicles registered here already this year, a figure that’s on track to top last year’s total, in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dealer Principal with Dulick Motors in Ennis, Trisha Rynne, says the lack of charge points hasn’t put people off buying electric vehicles in Clare.
