Lough Derg RNLI Make Safety Appeal After Lake Rescue

Lough Derg RNLI is appealing to those sailing on the lake to take steps to ensure they don’t run aground.

It comes after the service rescued three people from a 27 foot cruiser that got into difficulties yesterday (Sunday) evening on the eastern shore of the lake.

The lifeboat was launched around 4.25pm, after a request from Valentia Coastguard and assisted two adults and a child.

All were found to be unharmed and the vessel, which suffered damage to its propellers, was towed to Dromineer Harbour.

Lough Derg RNLI member Owen Cavanagh is uring boat users to plan their passage before setting out and to make sure they stick to the correct side of the navigation marks to avoid running aground.
