Lissycassey Councillor Doesn’t Believe LPT Should Be Reduced

A Lisseycasey Councillor believes there shouldn't be a reduction in the local property tax next year.

It comes as over two million euro collected from Clare homeowners this year is to be sent on services in other counties.

The Department of Local Government expects the tax to yield 10 million euro here – 20% of that will go into an equalisation fund, but Clare will derive no income from this.

The figures mark a continuation of the system that has been in place in recent years, which will allow Councillors the option of reducing the tax by up to 15%. 

That decision will be made at a meeting in September and Fianna Fáil Councillor PJ Kelly doesn't think it should be the case this time around.
