Lisdoonvarna School Principal Calls For Increases Resources Ahead Of Arrival Of Asylum Seekers

The Department of Education is being called on to ensure that Lisdoonvarna’s schools have adequate resources in place to deal with an influx of pupils.

The North Clare village is expected to see 30 asylum seekers arrive from next week, where they’ll be housed in the King Thomond Hotel once the contract is signed, and that number will rise in the coming months.

This has led to concern among the local community, which has called for the move to be postponed, until their questions have been answered.

A second public meeting is to be held on the matter this week, and Principal of Mary Immaculate Secondary School John O’Loughlin says they would welcome any new pupils with open arms – if they’re given the resources to help them flourish.
