Level Of Overcrowding Remains High At UHL

The introduction of a new ward at the region’s main hospital this week appears to have had little positive impact on the level of overcrowding there.

The latest figures from the INMO show 38 patients were left waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick today, 21 of those in the emergency department.

It’s 9 more than the next busiest facility – 29 people were waiting on trolleys at University Hospital Galway today.

A 17-bed unit opened in the newly refurbished old ED at UHL on Monday as part of efforts to combat record levels of overcrowding there.
