Clare Councillors have launched a scathing attack on government over the removal of Reps four.

Local representatives held a lengthy debate on the issue at their monthly meeting last night as IFA members met with local Fianna Fail representatives to highlight the dire situation farmers are now in.

Last week the government announced the closure of the programme but the Agriculture Minister denies he has left the sector in limbo and that a new environmental scheme would replace REPS 4.

Farming Groups have already warned of a summer of discontent ahead as they step up campaigns to highlight the ongoing cuts are having on the sector.
