Kilrush RNLI is warning of the dangers when taking to the water in the Shannon Estuary, following a rescue operation in difficult conditions late last night.

The Irish Coast Guard was alerted at around 11.20pm when three people on board a 7-metre rib got into difficulty off the coast of Clare, near Carrigaholt.

The volunteer crew of the Kilrush RNLI lifeboat were dispatched to the scene shortly before midnight and found the man and two women to be wearing lifejackets and doing their best to bail water from the vessel.
