Kilrush Councillors seek talks with Dail representatives on boosting local democracy

 

 

The government has been urged to reject calls for the abolition of town councils across Clare.

The plan had been contained in the An Bord Snip Nua report in 2009 and Kilrush Town Council has called on Enda Kenny’s administration not to implement the proposal.

Councillors have also called for a meeting with Clare’s Dáil representatives to discuss ways to work together to keep democracy at a local level, and to discuss plans to promote business and tourism in West Clare.

Kilrush Councillor Paul Moroney feels it would be a mistake for the town to lose it’s council.
