Beckman Coulter currently employs 407 people at its East Clare site, and following a recent expansion has now announced it’s to hire at least 30 new staff.

The healthcare company is manufacturing a key serology product, which is being used in the fight against COVID-19.

Serology testing measures antibodies left behind by the virus and can be a vital tool in determining who’s already been infected, including people who may be asymptomatic or have since recovered and might have immunity to a virus.

It’s believed these tests could support decision making in the future, in terms of returning to work or determining who might qualify for a vaccine once one’s available.

They could also identify people who could donate plasma to be used as a treatment for those severely affected by coronavirus.

The tests are now available across the world and Beckman Coulter recently announced a partnership with Lenco Labs in the US to bring tens of thousands of them to New York.

Site Director, Orlaith Lawler has said the company is very proud it’s employees who have been working around the clock to bring these tests so quickly to the market.
